The new Siri UX needs improvement and to match the UX of talking to chatGPT. At least in settings have an option to keep the Siri window always on top (just have a prominent X out to go to the screen below) and always listening ready to continue your conversation like the experience is with chatGPT.

Been running the beta since June -- on the latest beta now and 8 out of ten times to continue the conversation with Siri (most notably in the car with my phone docked) I have to constantly say "Hey Siri."

One thing it's current UX has over chatGPT voice tech as it shows you the text and provides visuals while chatGPT's UI shows no text and or visuals.

Music creation ha that requires a human's raw human form talent not typing into a prompt.

Signed a hobbyist human songwriter who has a hate and minor like for Suno as im not a good singer.

Any job that requires human working on computers to complete tasks is slowly becoming irrelevant where the computers themselves do the work.

How many people now make their living completing tasks on computers?

Let me go ask my brother who works at pwc as a partner - who has yet to lay off a single person in the entire firm since the llm-hype+boom. They’re also hiring more than ever.

You guys are so deluded in your little bubble it’s hilarious.

"Look at me, I collected a single data point, I am so SMRT. Fooled U suckers!"

Please at least attempt to have a big more rigor in your standards.

[flagged]

You are retired and sound like a conservative who soon be cheering on Universal Basic Income "if," you follow and agree with everything the president says.

As you can see in June he says he's met with the Ai overlords about giving out free money. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7lQEpKzVY4 Then two months later he is banging the drum about highly unpopular data centers & now he wants to give free 5k checks away for voting red (lol). The natural progression of what the Ai overlords have champion for a decade is what he will champion next too Universal Basic Income (aka welfare checks) because the overlords see the future and have sold the president on it too!

>You guys are so deluded in your little bubble it’s hilarious. Please do not lump all HN posters in one category, and if you insist on doing so, please be courteous and generous with your interpretation of their words. As an aside, I had to look up what pwc is because they're totally irrelevant to me. But in general, it costs you nothing to tell people to spend years retraining their hard-earned skills, which is roughly what your advice is worth. You can't promise that the industry they pivot into will exist by the time they qualify to work in it, and the cost of their career retraining is denominated in time they don't get back. Nor will you be there for their journey to even know if they made it.

Funny how it works. To me you are delusional and living in a bubble. Your stance would’ve made (some, not much though) year ago, but today it’s just dumb.

The Ai overlords have been banging this drum for over a decade with Altman posting about the need for Universal Basic Income on here in 2016.

I didn't remember/realize this so I went searching [1] and found multiple sources e.g. [2]

That's until you find yourself in this job market and you realize now how stupid the digital creation job market and overall jobs are. Once you get laid (off) you are now you're in a pile of 100(edit 1000s) other applicants equally qualified vying for the same job and then hundreds of thousands who can all type to Ai to do a job that once required knowledge & skill.

> Once you get laid you are now you're in a pile of 100 other applicants equally qualified

I'm assuming there should be an "off" after "laid"...

I don't know, I've had some years where without "off" would also make sense.

Only 100? Those are good odds in the current market...

Indeed been using the new Siri since June and it fails a ton in comparison to chatGPT voice!

Using chatGPT voice i can see Open AI's push for pushing us to a new Internet voice paradigm 1st with screens/visuals secondary & complimentary to possibly none at all. It would be much safer especially when driving to get super intelligent human like directions where voice says drive to the mcdonalds on dorset you go to all the time and across the street is the new 7 Brew coffee shop.

Been using the new Siri since June. ChatGPT voice is still superior!

Please Apple let me easily swap out Siri for chatGPT voice! Work together .. buy them or something. Their voice conversation tech is superior and can help save lives when driving!

They’re currently embroiled in a technology theft lawsuit.

Don’t expect it any time soon.

Yeah Im aware but it could lead to better integration and or an all out buy out.

If you have ever used chatGPT voice for directions you could forsee that super intelligent contextual directions are safer then looking at a screen. I.e. "That new mechanic is across the street from the McDonalds on Dorset," in a locale you are familiar with.

Job destruction signals...

- Uber is lobbying cities to slow down Waymo rollouts https://www.hcamag.com/us/specialization/transformation/uber......

- 23,000 information sector jobs were lost https://www.axios.com/2026/09/08/jobs-media-software-informa...

- If you have been laid from your info sector/digital creation job you are now competing with 100s of thousands looking for their next such job where Ai can do a lot of the tasks these workers did/do. It's a shitshow for those unemployed looking for their next info sector/digital asset creation job. You are better off doing welding building out the Ai data centers if you want long term properous financial stable employment.

For Meta they need to detect people giving wearers the finger to stop the glasses from recording or taking pics ha

I do wear my Metas frequently though would never get the finger cause Im not a creep.

In my personal opinion, you're normalising technology that has overwhelmingly more benefit to creeps than to non creeps. So even if you're not a creep yourself, you are helping them.

Our culture has definitely changed from when Google Glass wearers were referred to as Glassholes.

It appears that more people have just accepted that they will be filmed anywhere and everywhere.

I miss the old days.

Not everyone has accepted that.

Meta glasses are known as perv glasses. People are actively destroying flock cameras all over.

We went from opt-in zones to opt-out zones. Living spaces with curtains drawn and the inside of your vehicle should really be opt-in though.

If you sneak up to a house and peer in the windows, there might be trouble. I haven't looked at court decisions, and those'd be regional/country based, but if a house is 200M away on a hill, and you need a pair of binoculars to see in it, is there 'public nudity' if they walk around without the shades drawn?

I'd say no.

Yet conversely, it's not illegal(criminal) to use binoculars to peer. Still, you can get an injunction(civil) if it's a common thing, because then it moves into harassment. Restraining orders have been given. So then the question is, why is this a thing for your neighbour peering at your house with binoculars some of the day, but not for a camera doing the same 24x7? EG, a Ring camera pointed at your house, with sufficient resolution to act as binoculars?

I really wish 'viewing someone with a camera' remotely, was looked at more from the frame of 'is it the same as using binoculars'. EG, is there a zoom lens on the camera, or just as important, is it of sufficient high resolution that it can act as a zoom lens in software.

I'd like to see a court case push back against that.

I've found with technology, that everyone from judges to lawyers seem incapable, at the start, of considering it with an analog, uh, analogue. Almost all cameras are as binoculars today.

Your comment reminds me of the old Google Opt Out Village video from The Onion

I think this Creepy Robert Scoble Google Glass High School Girls Recording is even creepier than his sharing naked shower selfies, because it involved subjecting teenaged girls to his classic brand of braggadocious self-aggrandizing behavior which he is so well known for, not just his own wet naked grinning body. That he lacks shame and self-awareness and still hasn't taken it down after all these years is just frosting on the cake.

Really, in Scoble's big head, that's what actually makes creepy surveillance technologies successful and worth all the costs and downsides: that high school girls love them??! They must really love Flock cameras then! Well at least their corrupt cop ex-boyfriends do.

Considering the shower photo, his personality, his entire career of being a shallow vapid yapping technology cheerleader and wanna-be gatekeeper who never accomplished anything himself beyond manufacturing the attention he is so starved for, and his sexual harassment scandal where he plugged his own new "LightPitch" Attention Manufacturing Startup in his horrible non-apology apology (actually a denial and counterattack) after his previous colleague Shel Israel parted ways in disgust, this "The High School Girls Love Them" recording sure didn't age well.

The aging dot-com-era digerati in his old-boys' network still circle the wagons around him, pretending none of this ever happened. (You know who you are!)

> though would never get the finger cause Im not a creep.

Wearing them out in public is definitely enough to get the finger and be called a creep, because many people think they're always recording. I think you're underestimating the hatred of modern tech.

That sucks to hear, i wish you were getting shamed more frequently in public

For what taking pics when skiing, kayaking and other times when my hands aren't free and Im already wearing glasses. For taking pics of nature and taking pics of friends and family whom asked for a picture?

Let's see if Google/Samsung's upcoming smart glasses releasing Fall 2026 get as much flack as Meta who many techies hate Meta/Facebook.

> taking pics when skiing, kayaking and other times when my hands aren't free

GoPros are great for that. You can get one that is small enough to stay out of the way, have a more secure mount than glasses and a recording device that doesnt try to hide the fact that its a camera.

I hope so!

Yeaaaah, you're not a creep, you just creep.

In January after 8 years (17 years in tech overall) at the same govt IT firm in the Mid-Atlanic region I was laid off. I quickly enrolled in healthcare classes and starting my clinical rotation for low level healthcare position ($25 an hour hopefully vs. multiples in tech) in September. Also, I will be doing my clinical Radiology rotation this time next year. Still won't be making the same money but i dont see a future in creative tech anymore when anyone can type to create graphics, songs, web designs, websites, iPhone apps, etc. This note of his reinforces what I thought I should do and what I am doing is the right path.

If you're interested in healthcare IT look into becoming an Epic admin. Hospitals and clinics want RNs with a tech background for those roles, and they pay really well (~150k here in CA)

yeah in time im hoping to mix my 17 years in creative tech with my new healthcare career. Hopefully get back to the money I was making, but humbled and happy to start at the bottom again for stability and always have a job waiting if needed. At least until the healthcare field gets filled with others like me.

If you don't mind, can you share what healthcare position you were able to start without prior healthcare background?

what is RN?

Registered Nurse

For what it's worth I'm also drawn to radiology tech - I guess because it's one of the most "techy" fields out there in healthcare? Hope all goes well for you.

Unfortunately radiology is also one area of healthcare being highly targeted for AI replacement of humans.

Well not radiology technicans as they are required to use equipment on patients to get diagnostic data. AI could possibly reduce the amount of radiologists (they are doctors) jobs.

Thank you and it's a competitive field to get into just look for schools out in the middle of nowhere and wherever for easier entry into a program.

I think we all wish you good fortune and wellness on your journey. But some of us are sticking around knowing that taste is something AI will never be able to define. Let them have their (copied) graphics, songs, web designs, websites, iPhone apps, etc…
